Unresponsive to remote

Every now and again the door locks and boot do not respond to the remote. It seems to be more frequent after the car is washed but not only then.
I thought it might have had something to do with me having wet hands when using the remote after washing but I have made sure a few times that I dried them before touching it and the problem still exists.
Is this problem familiar to others or is it just mine with the problem?
