Reprogram VE sedan key for VE ute

Bit of a strange question,

I have a VE sedan key which is no longer used... I was wondering if I could buy a new key blade, get it cut by the locksmith and get it reprogrammed to work with my ute?


I presume the programming should be normal and the boot button just won't do anything?
For reference the keys are otherwise the same and are non-flip keys.
