Suspension over hall VY2 Wagon. Bush Mechanic style, hints, tips etc needed! :) .-.-.

Hi Guys,

I've got a 2004 VY Series 2 Commodore Wagon that I haven't had too long. (Little over 6 Months maybe).

It was a good buy. Lot of maintenance receipts from the previous owner.

It's started giving a little wear on the front tyres. (Feathering, outside edge, only an inch or so).
Also a balance vibration in the steering at 100Km/h.
So I took it into Fulcrum for one of their free suspension checks.

Even though the previous owner had had Pedders replace a fair bit less then 3 years ago Fulcrum guy basically said it's all RS again :( .

This is what I can decode from the scratching's on the paper work.

Front Shocks Soft LH/RH
Strut Bar Rear Bush Soft LH/RH
L/RHF Rack Boot Cracked
LHF Tie Rod Worn
Rear Shocks Soft
Front Link Pins Worn LH/RH
Rear Sway Bar D Rubbers Worn

The quote to fix ~$1700 (Although I note he missed one rear shock in the quote) So maybe ~$1800+ by the end of the day :(

Anyhow I've been watching a few reruns of ABC2's "Bush Mechanics" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_Mechanics

So being the poor eternally skint bastard that I am I recon that just maybe in true Aussie spirit I should have a crack at it myself over a few beers!

I'm not game to tackle the front McPherson struts myself but the rest looks like it just all bolts in and with plenty of room to work around too!
Prices seem a lot better online then quoted. And It would certainly shave a big chunk out of the ~$500 labour quote.

So after some helpful advice what to buy and where etc. The do's, the don't, you get the idea.

The car is an ex Country Ambo so is police spec.
It has the "FR1" country pack suspension. So sits a little higher then normal. I want to leave it this way as I find it's much better for avoiding scrubbing out that is typical with modern lowered vehicles.

Is there anything in particular that I need to watch when purchasing parts due to the "FR1" pack?

Also what's the best brands to buy in shocks? I more so want something that lasts. Not so much into sports suspension etc. For me it's more about the on going maintenance $$$'s over time.

I'll include some pic's below.
